Why We're Heading to Create & Cultivate 2026: A Clean Beauty Founder's Take

Why We're Heading to Create & Cultivate 2026: A Clean Beauty Founder's Take

There's something irreplaceable about being in a room full of women who are building something real.
At Oyu Botanica, we've spent the last four years doing the work that doesn't photograph well—sourcing organic botanicals from heritage suppliers, reformulating when an ingredient didn't meet our standards, hand-blending batches in pursuit of efficacy without compromise. It's the opposite of perform. It's create.
So when we think about Create & Cultivate 2026, it's not the Instagram moment we're after (though the gift bag is genuinely thoughtful). It's the 1:1 conversations. The other founders who understand that clean beauty isn't a trend—it's a standard we've decided to hold, no matter the margin impact.
The Beauty Founder Gauntlet
If you're building in clean beauty right now, you're navigating something genuinely complex:
• Certification complexity. Between USDA Organic, EWG Verified, and Leaping Bunny, every claim has a story. Most people don't realize the rigor behind these certifications until they're actually in the supply chain trying to source Goji Berry Seed Oil that meets your standards, not just the minimum.
• The formulation frontier. When we developed our Bakuchiol Booster Serum, it wasn't just about picking an active ingredient. It was about asking: what co-ingredients actually support reactive skin? What texture do we need for layering? What would we use? The market had plenty of bakuchiol products. We needed ours to feel like a difference.
• The founder reality. You're probably your own formulator, content creator, sourcing manager, and brand ambassador all at once. (We hand-produce every batch, and there's no delegation on that yet.) Nobody talks about the unglamorous parts of bootstrapping a beauty brand.
This is why spaces like Create & Cultivate matter. Not as a conference, but as a moment to be around people who actually get the work.
What We're Looking Forward To
Real conversations with real creators. The clean beauty space is starting to attract founders who take their formulations as seriously as their brand story. We want to meet them, trade sourcing stories, talk about ingredient margins, and maybe—if we're lucky—collaborate on something that serves reactive skin better.
Seeing the actual priorities. Activations and lineups at founder conferences have gotten smarter. Less performative inspiration, more actual tools. The speed-networking setup this year actually lets you meet people whose vibe and values align before you waste time on surface conversations. That's the infrastructure that matters.
Connecting with our community. We know some of you reading this are heading to C&C. We're bringing sample sets of our Verde Calm Crème, our Soothing Tallow Lotion Bar, and the Goji Berry Seed Oil Booster Serum—the products we've poured months into perfecting. We want to hear what your skin needs. We want to know what's not working in the current clean beauty market.
The Bigger Picture
One of the reasons we're so committed to this community is simple: we're still building. Oyu Botanica isn't 15 years in—we're four years into a journey that's just starting to scale. We moved through DTC, we're in wholesale partners like Faire, we're thinking about retail expansion. Every stage has taught us something.
The beauty founders who show up at these events aren't looking for validation. They're looking for leveling up. Strategy. Real talk about what works. New perspectives on an industry that's shifting toward authenticity and efficacy over influencer culture.
That's the conference we're attending. That's the community we're betting on.
